About the Role & Team:  

The Financial Markets (FM) team provides the financial markets expertise required for ASL’s work: financial evaluation of tenders, financial risk analysis, financial product development and financier relations.  The work includes:

  • Providing highest quality, market standard, supplementary evaluation of the financial value and risks in tenders to provide generation or storage. Review and analysis of financial risks in the portfolio of energy assets already approved

  • Collaboratively sponsor and develop investment support products, in particular products that improve the cost outcomes for consumers and governments, and improve development proposals

  • Engaging with renewable project financiers and NSW Roadmap entities and developing effective working relationships

  • Assisting with the establishment and maturing of the NSW Roadmap Scheme Financial Vehicle, so it can effectively execute its finance and risk management roles under the NSW Roadmap. Establishing processes for ongoing monitoring and management of these risks as NSW Consumer Trustee

  • Advisory to support policy to encourage further electricity infrastructure investment

About the Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Reporting to the General Manager, Financial Markets, this is a critical leadership role and is responsible for;

  • Understanding, developing and advising on financial instruments and other arrangements, that support investment in Australia's electricity system. Working with key internal and external stakeholders, there is a particular focus on developing and improving products and arrangements to achieve energy investment and consumer objectives

  • Financier Relationships, including;

    • Building strong relationships between Financial Markets and infrastructure financiers;

    • Educating financiers on the products (including how the products support Project Finance credit approvals);

    • Using financier feedback to help improved products; and

    • Understand the renewable generation and storage pipeline of potential projects and financial products that supports that pipeline

  • Building strong relationships with NSW Roadmap entities and AEMO Services’ business units

  • Advising on financial issues and solutions in the NSW Roadmap and related or similar arrangements

  • Advising on the establishment or improvement of electricity investment schemes, including taking carriage for Financial Market’s contribution to new engagements/RFP for AEMO Services

  • Understanding the financial and management relationships between all the entities in the NSW Roadmap and the Commonwealth Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS). Advising on issues related to these

  • Providing specific expertise and insights to assist other members of the Financial Markets team achieve successful outcomes in their work

  • Clearly communicating complex financial market, finance and Roadmap concepts to senior executives, key stakeholders and AEMO Services Board

  • Preparation of board papers, reports and other related documents as required

  • Applying problem-solving skills, in particular to create and refine new ASL products, improving AEMO Services processes, investment structures and entity relationships: solving issues that adversely impact the cost outcomes for the NSW Electricity customer

  • Role modelling AEMO Services’ values and culture and inspiring your team to do the same

  • Working as a positive and collaborative contributor to the work of all ASL teams. This includes assisting peers, senior members and junior team members to achieve objectives of the Financial Markets team and ASL more generally 

About You & the Role Requirements:

  • Extensive experience working at a major financial institution, investment arm of a significant corporation or a consulting firm, within a client facing relationship management type role involving derivatives, structured finance or corporate finance transactions

  • Demonstrated experience leading and motivating teams to achieve excellence, resulting in high levels of productivity and efficiency

  • Demonstrated experience providing guidance and support to the team as needed and assist in building the team’s capabilities and career trajectories  

  • Demonstrated confidence in establishing constructive internal & external stakeholder engagement, that builds respect and positive relationships  

  • Proven experience developing & implementing strategies that align with the Company’s overall goals & objectives

  • Proven history ensuring projects are complete on time, within budget and to the required quality standards

  • Open to identifying and improving professional development areas. This includes expecting and accepting constructive feedback from team members and stakeholders

  • Relevant qualifications in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Science, Law and Engineering or similar

  • Experience in modelling and/or analysis of financial value and risks associated with derivatives, structured finance or corporate finance, favourable

  • Experience developing and maintaining a wide network of professional client relationships in the finance industry

  • Deep understanding of a range of financial markets products. Energy market experience is favourable

  • Experience successfully developing, analysing, advising or selling sophisticated financial products

  • Ability to work independently within a dynamic, fast paced team environment, delivering high quality reports
